Recent Inspiration

Ahhh. It feels so nice to curl up on my couch and do whatever I want, without the guilty feeling of 'I should be studying'. However, it hasn't entirely sunk in that I have finished uni - forever! I think once I get my grades confirmation it will feel a tad more real.

I feel like i have (once again) sunk into a bit of a style rut, so I have been trawling through the internet for inspiration. Below are the pics that I have found: nothing too 'out-there', but totally wearable style. In one week exactly I head back up to Karratha, which will not do much for getting me out of my style rut. Girls tend to dress along three lines up there - skank, work uniform, and boring. I lived in Karratha from the age of 5 to 17, and have been back for holidays ever since then, so I know what I'm talking about. Sure there are those who venture outside of these groups, but the vast majority tend to stay true to the stereotypes. Which sucks. If you do try and dress a bit different, you most definitely run the risk of being laughed at/talked about. I (ashamedly) did it as a teenager and I have seen it done as an adult. Not really looking forward to two months up there sartorially wise, although the weather should be glorious!

All the pics are from Stockholm Streetstyle, Hanneli, Stylestalker, Fashion Gone Rouge and google. One notable exception is the pic of the girl dressed all in black, but with green shorts, standing in the snow. This is the lovely Clare from Clarabelle. She graciously allowed me to use her pic, which I would love to recreate in my own way. The traditional winter black with a bright pop of colour is awesome, and I also love the glasses :) Her blog makes me long for New York ...

Enjoy!

  1. Ohhh how I love the leather shorts look! I cannot find a pair that fit nicely though! Boo. And I can totally relate about dress sense in Karratha. Where I live is much the same. There are some stylish ladies but mostly girls rock the leggings as pants/jeggings/what ever is in supre look :| ergh. haha. x

  3. Congrats on finishing uni! I know what you mean about Karratha's sense of style, or lack thereof. Something about this town just drives you to abandon all hope of looking nice - maybe it's the heat, or the sand flies, or the fact that we only have a Target Country, KMart, Rockmans, and surf shops? Nothing like going out to dinner, and finding that your companions show up wearing shorts and a tee shirt...

  6. I got into town yesterday, and at the airport one of the first things I saw was a girl wearing a too small boob tube, too small jeans with a big flare (and mass muffin top on show), joggers, hair scraped back into a messy bun with 'bits' on either side of her face. Le sigh ... and so it starts. I am heading into the shops today - can't wait to see what some people are wearing!

RE: shan - and so often the shorts aren't nice shorts, but boardies for guys or too tight cut offs for girls :(

RE: Clare - my pleasure! I love your photos :)

RE: Teacup Grunge - Leather shorts are my holy grail. I can never find ones that fit nicely, or else the material is horrible. It doesn't help that I don't have very much money to spend
