Recent Inspiration

Ahhh. It feels so nice to curl up on my couch and do whatever I want, without the guilty feeling of 'I should be studying'. However, it hasn't entirely sunk in that I have finished uni - forever! I think once I get my grades confirmation it will feel a tad more real.

I feel like i have (once again) sunk into a bit of a style rut, so I have been trawling through the internet for inspiration. Below are the pics that I have found: nothing too 'out-there', but totally wearable style. In one week exactly I head back up to Karratha, which will not do much for getting me out of my style rut. Girls tend to dress along three lines up there - skank, work uniform, and boring. I lived in Karratha from the age of 5 to 17, and have been back for holidays ever since then, so I know what I'm talking about. Sure there are those who venture outside of these groups, but the vast majority tend to stay true to the stereotypes. Which sucks. If you do try and dress a bit different, you most definitely run the risk of being laughed at/talked about. I (ashamedly) did it as a teenager and I have seen it done as an adult. Not really looking forward to two months up there sartorially wise, although the weather should be glorious!

All the pics are from Stockholm Streetstyle, Hanneli, Stylestalker, Fashion Gone Rouge and google. One notable exception is the pic of the girl dressed all in black, but with green shorts, standing in the snow. This is the lovely Clare from Clarabelle. She graciously allowed me to use her pic, which I would love to recreate in my own way. The traditional winter black with a bright pop of colour is awesome, and I also love the glasses :) Her blog makes me long for New York ...

Enjoy!

Baby I've got you on my mind ...

Wishlist

These are some of the items i am currently craving. Don't really care about the brandnames, it's more of a template wishlist. If that makes sense. It is my first attempt using polyvore, not quite sure how I feel about it yet.

I have one more exam on Tuesday, then I am done forever! Can't wait. On a less happy note, however, it means that soon I will have to start thinking about the rest of my life, which kinda makes me want to vomit in anxiety. I am definitely starting to stress out about next year, namely finding a job. Preferably a marketing job, in a fun and/or creative industry with good pay and the possibility of some kind of career path. That's not to much to ask for, is it?

... is it? :(

This is me, yo.

Today I FINALLY wore a turband. I have been wanting to rock one out for ages now, but was slightly apprehensive - I didn't want to look like a total idiot. Hopefully, I did not. Apart from my facial expressions - they are meant to look ridiculous.

ZING! Gotcha. The last one isn't me, it Naboo from the ever-awesome, The Mighty Boosh.

Apart turbanding and taking highly hilarious pics, I have also been studying, procrastinating, discovering new blogs, procrastinating, baking, procrastibaking, and trying to study. My first exam is tomorrow morning, and I am not too stressed about it. I think the facts that it is 100% multiple choice and that I didn't study AT ALL for the midsem (I forgot that it was on until 1hr before ... woops) yet still got a reasonably good mark. However, I am trying to not to be too complacent and do some study. YEAH! Go team me!

Trooooolls!

How good was Harry Potter last night? Haha. I have been annoying the boy by repeating the same quote over and over. (and over and over ... etc)

Today, I avoided study by heading to the movies with the aforementioned boy and a friend from up north. We watched X-Men: First Class. It is was ok, defs not as good as the first one, but ok. "Helt okej" as one would say in Swedish**

I wore:

Cotton On jumper, Supre shirt, Ksubi shorts, Ambra tights, Kmart tights, Zu shoes

Please the excuse ridiculous last pose, I was trying some 'creative' ways of trying to bring my shoes into the shot, haha :)

And before I forget, hello to the new people following me! I can't believe I have hit TEN! It is super awesome

**Since we are going on an massive overseas trip later this year, I am trying to me my rusty Swedish ... less rusty.

Me talking about fashion stuff ...

I was going through Fashion Gone Rouge the other day and stumbled upon these photos:

Credit: Sheila Marquez by David Roemer for Marie Claire Spain June 2011. For the rest of the shoot click here

Credit: Flavia de Oliveira by Marcelo Krasilcic for Elle Italia June 2011. For the rest of the shoot click here

Looking at these photos make me long for summer again ... For some unknown reason, I didn't go to the beach AT ALL this past summer and I am really regretting right now. Actually, I do know the reason why - working approx 10 hours a day, 13 days a week doesn't leave much time for beach-going!

David Roemer's photos are gorgeous. I love love LOVE a black swimsuit ... They are classic, timeless and forgiving. I think that Roemer's photos encapsulate the elegance and sexiness of a black swimsuit perfectly. The simplicity of the shots is stunning. The minimalism of the the hair and makeup, lack of accessories and simple background provide a cleanness, of which the swimsuits are the focal point. If this was Masterchef, they would be the 'hero' of the shoot!

Marcelo Krasilcic's photos, on the other hand, are a study in contrasts. While the basic elements remain the same - swimwear and a beach location - they have an entirely different feel. The hair and makeup, colourful accessories and clothing and the use of props create a photo story that just screams holiday. I love these photos for a totally different reason, they speak to me in another way. I also love the fact that of all these photos from Krasilcic have a common black or dark thread that seems to almost 'ground' the colour of the shots, giving them depth.

This is my first attempt and a sort of fashion journalism I guess. I hope it was to pretentious! :)

Pause

Sorry again for the radio silence. My parents have been staying with us the past few days so have been occupied in keeping them occupied :) they head back to Kalbarri tomorrow, so expect regular posts starting tomorrow.

Until then, a picture if the freaking awesome dinner I made tonight:

Moroccanish lamb chops and sauce/jus whatever, potato and sweet potato mash, steamed veggies and roast tomatoes. And a very nice glass of wine :)

Recent purchases

These are some of my recent purchases ... I'm TRYING to save money, but keep getting sucked in by sales and deals. Oh well :)

Diva feather necklace, Diva gold bead necklace, Diva cloudy gemstone pendant on silver chain (all three for a grand total of $15 instead of $68 - yay Diva $5 sales!), Canon EOS 300d

Lee, the guy selling the camera, was nice enough to allow me to trial the camera overnight - so much fun! I have already taken a heap of pics from playing around with the different settings, but will have to wait until I pick up the connector cable tomorrow to transfer them. I still can't believe I now have a SLR. Super excited, haha!

Up Front and Personal

So, yesterday I ventured out of the apartment for the first time in days and went into the city to spend my gift voucher. I wore:

Witchery slouchy beret, Kookai leather jacket, Cotton On cardigan, Lee jeans, belt and necklace were presents

This is the necklace that I bought from Pigeonhole. Pretty, yes? Slightly overpriced in my opinion ($55) but since I bought it with a voucher, technically it didn't cost me anything. And I think I already know what I am going to spend the remainder of my voucher on ...

Today I have the opportunity to buy a second-hand DSLR, a Canon 300d for $350. I really want a SLR, as it will really make a difference to the quality of pics on this blog, as well as for when the boy and I go overseas later this year. However, I am slightly apprehensive about buying a second-hand camera ... If anyone has any tips or suggestions, PLEASE let me know!

Things I Actually Did Yesterday

• Texted my parents
• Did a load of washing
• Used part of my voucher, which is now extended until August. Yay!
• Sent of my resume for a holiday job
• Helped my boyfriend with his resume

Aaaaand that’s pretty much it! Haha, woops … didn’t really get much done on my list, but oh well. I got out the house which was nice, bought a new necklace, and had gelare for dinner. Definitely a win in my book!
