Shopping!

I went SHOPPING! Now, I know that that seems like a rather normal thing to do, but I honestly feel like I haven't been clothes shopping in ages. It probably hasn't actually been that long, but oh well. During the trip, we have been saving all of our shopping for London, so that we don't have to lug extra clothes around Europe, but I couldn't resist. While in Bordeaux, I bought new socks and tights (I know, super exciting) and a new coat, which I LOVE, all from H & M. I really miss H & M, it is pretty much where I spent all my spare money while on exchange in Sweden.
Coat: H&M, Leggings: H&M, Shirt: Marcs by Marc Jacobs, Scarf: Rome street vendor, Boots: Target, Bag: H&M I just realised that I am wearing a lot of stuff from H & M ... Woops! Sneak peek into the future - there is going to be a lot more before I leave Europe! :) C xx

Recent Inspiration

Ahhh. It feels so nice to curl up on my couch and do whatever I want, without the guilty feeling of 'I should be studying'. However, it hasn't entirely sunk in that I have finished uni - forever! I think once I get my grades confirmation it will feel a tad more real.

I feel like i have (once again) sunk into a bit of a style rut, so I have been trawling through the internet for inspiration. Below are the pics that I have found: nothing too 'out-there', but totally wearable style. In one week exactly I head back up to Karratha, which will not do much for getting me out of my style rut. Girls tend to dress along three lines up there - skank, work uniform, and boring. I lived in Karratha from the age of 5 to 17, and have been back for holidays ever since then, so I know what I'm talking about. Sure there are those who venture outside of these groups, but the vast majority tend to stay true to the stereotypes. Which sucks. If you do try and dress a bit different, you most definitely run the risk of being laughed at/talked about. I (ashamedly) did it as a teenager and I have seen it done as an adult. Not really looking forward to two months up there sartorially wise, although the weather should be glorious!

All the pics are from Stockholm Streetstyle, Hanneli, Stylestalker, Fashion Gone Rouge and google. One notable exception is the pic of the girl dressed all in black, but with green shorts, standing in the snow. This is the lovely Clare from Clarabelle. She graciously allowed me to use her pic, which I would love to recreate in my own way. The traditional winter black with a bright pop of colour is awesome, and I also love the glasses :) Her blog makes me long for New York ...

Enjoy!

Me talking about fashion stuff ...

I was going through Fashion Gone Rouge the other day and stumbled upon these photos:

Credit: Sheila Marquez by David Roemer for Marie Claire Spain June 2011. For the rest of the shoot click here

Credit: Flavia de Oliveira by Marcelo Krasilcic for Elle Italia June 2011. For the rest of the shoot click here

Looking at these photos make me long for summer again ... For some unknown reason, I didn't go to the beach AT ALL this past summer and I am really regretting right now. Actually, I do know the reason why - working approx 10 hours a day, 13 days a week doesn't leave much time for beach-going!

David Roemer's photos are gorgeous. I love love LOVE a black swimsuit ... They are classic, timeless and forgiving. I think that Roemer's photos encapsulate the elegance and sexiness of a black swimsuit perfectly. The simplicity of the shots is stunning. The minimalism of the the hair and makeup, lack of accessories and simple background provide a cleanness, of which the swimsuits are the focal point. If this was Masterchef, they would be the 'hero' of the shoot!

Marcelo Krasilcic's photos, on the other hand, are a study in contrasts. While the basic elements remain the same - swimwear and a beach location - they have an entirely different feel. The hair and makeup, colourful accessories and clothing and the use of props create a photo story that just screams holiday. I love these photos for a totally different reason, they speak to me in another way. I also love the fact that of all these photos from Krasilcic have a common black or dark thread that seems to almost 'ground' the colour of the shots, giving them depth.

This is my first attempt and a sort of fashion journalism I guess. I hope it was to pretentious! :)

Ouch!

How is this even slightly ok? I was reading this latest post from Harper and Harley today, and she blogged about these super nice Bec & Bridge fedoras. They are pretty nifty looking, and I admit, I am a bit of sucker for 'pre-sale' and the thought of obtaining an item before other people. I could just see myself swanning around in a 'hazelnut' or 'dove grey' fedora, gaining admiring looks from all and sundry.

Pics from Harper and Harley, who got them from Oracle Fox and Grand Social.

However, when I clicked on the link to check them out, these pretty little hats are a whopping TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY FIVE DOLLARS! (Yes, I am that shocked that I felt compelled to write out the whole amount so that I could make use of the caps lock)

Again, how is this even slightly ok? How can a HAT, albeit a very pretty one, cost so freaking much?!?!?! Maybe it is the student budget conscious part of me, or maybe a bit of my mother, but I cannot fathom paying so much for a hat. Especially a Bec & Bridge one! If it was Chanel or some brand like that I might understand it a bit more, though still not want to pay so much. But Bec & Bridge? Have I missed something? Since when are they so freaking exy??

Seriously, what the heck is going on?

Booty-licious

Apologies for the extremely un-imaginative title!

I have been wanting to get some low ankle boots for winter for some time now, and have found the pair that I want.

Pros:
- cheap-ish
- buckle detail
- nice heel

Cons:
- not yet sure if they will fit (the smallest size is a 6, and I'm usually a 5 or a 6, mostly a 5)
- am undecided which colour to get!

What do you think, black or tan???
